Here's two train shots that I took today. C&C appreciated...

From looking at these myself, I feel like I still need to work on the rule of thirds.

Any other ideas, comments, or tips?

My thought is not so much about the rule of thirds, but rather about too much "stuff" in the image and wayyy too much DoF. I think these would have been much more interesting if you were to use a longer focal-length and larger aperture to isolate the subject in focus. Overall though, as much of a devoted ferroequinologist as I am, a couple of shots of grain gons isn't the most interesting. Are you able to get to a place where you include the motive power, say a 3/4 loco profile, shooting along the length of the train?

Ferroequinologist?
Iron horse studier?

I think there are interest lines in both of these. I think cropping the second image from the left to the pillar that lines up just passed the the word "looking" in the sentence below it.

I like these together and each has a nice sense of place.

Too busy, but there is some great material you caught such as the Canada car in #1 and the graffitti in #2.
