Another green screen shot. I tried paying more attention to the background lighting and angle.. I hope this is better. I also left more head space.

This is Tricia as princess Anna from Frozen. Another from my shoot with Dream Entertainers.

It's a lot nicer than the mermaid. I think there were a lot of things about that mermaid that wasn't working for her- particularly that shirt as bare skin.

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't have much of a choice there... it's a company that does princess parties for children.. can't have the girls going around in nothing but bikini tops.

Im not a pro at this at all, but something about her standing exactly parallel to the lens feels very wrong.

The lighting seemed really good though... I honestly didn't know it was a fake background.

I'm not pro at this either, but for a greenscreen, I think it turned out fine. If anything, I'd darken up the background just a wee bit.

Much better photography, I'd just work on the masking job now, and make it blend better. I'd loosen the crop a bit as well so it's not so narrow of an image.

RE: the lighting. Yes, the direction she was lighted from matches the direction of the lighting on the background photo, so the pattern of light and shadow sides matches.There's also a pretty decent match on the coloration of the light--no obvious cold/warm look, so that helps sell this illusion pretty well. A few weeks ago we had somebody doing composites, and lighting the foreground and background from differing directions...looked utterly fake from the first second. That is not the case here. When seen small, this shot looks pretty real. When seen full-size and examined closely, the fact that it's a composite is clear to me, but I think in many cases of use, it would pass for an "actual location" shot to most peoples' eyes.

I can see that you're getting better as you do more of these, DGM!

Yeah, that's what I'm struggling with currently... I did try, and you might be able to see that, but it looked too fake, so I lowered the opacity and I guess now it's hard to distinguish.

Do you mean the original file, with the green screen and everything? Or the cutout girl, and the background separately?

I could just send you the PSD if you were interested in trying.

I don't know that she "needs" a strong shadow; the way it looks, with the deep shadow on the back of her skirt, and the soft, diffused shadow on the ground, crossing the width of the footbridge, it looks like she's standing feet in the shade, and her head and body up in some low, angling sunlight! It looks like she's right on the edge of some late afternoon light.

I just feel like blending her into the environment, instead of floating does wonders:



same thing for her outline. It's too perfect of a cutout. There should be a feather so he hair blends into the sky better. See a few yt videos on hair masking in photoshop; something like this:
