I'm afraid I don't see a lot to critique here. These seem to be a random collection of holiday snaps... Could you explain a little more about your thought-process with these?

Just critique on the techincal standpoint. You know composition etc.

I don't think you need my though-processes on that? ;)

I like candids. I think they're interesting.

They all seem to be tilted to some degree, looks like you drop the left side of your camera just a tad.... wear a heavy watch? :D. Colors a bit flat, doesnt seem to pop like it should in, where ever this is, Miami?

Is that girl picking her wedgie? I don't know that that offers much to the photo haha.

1,3 and 4 are from Miami. These have very little if any post processing done and unfortunately I don't have a decent software for it either.

1 and 2 were shot in stark sunlight so that kind of flattened the colors.

1. A tighter crop of the subject would probably help, but overall I don't find this shot interesting. I feel like it should be interesting with the colorful umbrella and such, but it just doesn't grab me.

2. The colors are a bit flat, and since the cat isn't facing the camera it's hard to feel any kind of connection to it. Also since they're composed on opposite sides of the frame, they don't really appear to have any connection to each other. If you'd pulled back a little bit and left a little more space above and to one side of them, it may have served to show a relationship, and maybe tell a story.

3. I like the panning look, but I wish the subject wasn't centered.

4. This is probably your strongest shot of the bunch, but... well actually two butts is the "but." They both look like they're pulling their clothes out of their cracks, though I think they're just walking. I like the symmetry, I like the moment, but if it had been taken a fraction of a second before or after that, their arms would both have been in different positions. That's the kind of thing that happens when you shoot candids though. I think this one would end up in my trash can despite all the other things that make it sweet.

These are just my opinions, and I have my own issues I'm working on, but I think you show promise and just need to work at it more. Like me, you need to learn to put more thought in to a photo before you press the shutter button.

Have you checked out Gimp? I just use that and DPP ( comes with Canon bodies ).

OrionsByte: True, true. I feel that getting my thought into the pictures is the main challenge for me right now. I feel that I have most of the technical stuff under control. When shooting candids it's really hard to plan the shots though because you never know what your subject is going to do next. The fourth picture I actually planned and waited for the couple to step into the "frame" but they quickly moved away and destroyed the symmetry I was looking for.

j-digg: Yup, I have both softwares and I prefer the DPP. It suits my most needs but sometimes I want more. For example adjusting different colors independently.
