Trip to Niagara falls! help me get some good photos :)

well it looks like work is sending me to Toronto for a week and i will have a full day to go to the falls. was hoping you guys could give me some tips on getting some decent photos as i am so new to dslr's and photography. any suggestions would be appreciated, what lens to use, settings i should look into (looks like will be sunny on sunday) etc... the camera i own is a canon t3i with canon ef-s 18-55mm f/3..5-5.6, canon ef-s 55-250mm f/4-5.6 is telephoto zoom lens and canon ef 50mm f/1.8 II standard autofocus lens. thanks in advance! :thumbup:

I haven't been there since I was a young child, so specific tips for places to get shots wouldn't be very useful. Since the mists can be aggressive... you might want to pickup a disposable rain jacket for your camera.

BTW, these usually cinch around the lens hood... do you have a lens hood? The kit lens has a rotating front element so without a hood it might not work well.

Hi,
Been there few times about 10 years ago.
I remember more about the region than just the falls.
It is the vineyard region of Ontario...many places to visit.
Also if I recall correctly the small road between the falls and Niagara on the Lake is nice with access to the shore at many places.
The village Niagara on the Lake was very nice in those days.

Walk around Clifton Hill, it's basically a huge tourist area and it's right where the Falls themselves are so you could get a lot of great shots there. One picture I took of them is probably still one of the best shots I've taken yet.

Your 50mm 1.8 at f/8 will give you a good sharp image.

TCampbell thak you so much i didn't even think about about the lens hood or the rain jacket for the camera, i just ordered both! . thanks texkam i will definitely give that a try. cant wait, sounds like a lot of places to take some good photos so ill try to see as much as i can! thanks again.

I'd not been there for more than 15 years. I like the view when I was in the Canada side. I took the boat tour at that time, and I needed to wear rain coat. So not sure if your camera or lens are weather seal. If not, you may need something for your gear. But then again, that was more than 15 years ago.

Also, when I was at the US side, I noticed a lot of birds flying right above me and saw feel people had umbrellas with them. I guess they were well prepared. LOL
