tripod recommendation

I am in Glacier NP for the summer. I have an older Canon Rebel with a 300mm lens (yeah, I know not ideal but it was free so the value to cost ratio is pretty good). I'd like to do some wildlife photography as well as landscape photography. So I'm looking for a tripod that is light, easy to carry, and stable enough for maybe a 300mm or (if I can swing it) a 600mm lens.

I would appreciate any suggestions. And yes, I work for a non-profit so money is not infinite.

Consider a monopod. For time exposures get a tripod but for a 10X tele at borderline shutter speeds a monopod and tilt head much more practical.

You don't say which camera or lens you have, but for hiking with a 35mm full-frame camera and up to a 300 f/2.8 lens I use a

Hakuba HG-6230 carbon-fiber tripod. For up to a 600mm lens I would use my Ries J-600 wooden tripod.
