i don't think Underworld had the skin be so blue as much as the back ground has a blueish tint ... and they really seem to make the eyes have a lot of pop

Aside from the props, I think you're on the right track to that underworld feel.
Personally, I think with that coloring you should make it less green and blue, and add in some gray. That might be an easy way to try and make the people a little more pale.

Did you take the photo or were you given the photo to post process?

If you can reshoot, think about more dramatic lighting and use some gels to start closer to the colours you want.
