Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi everyone and happy holidays:thumbup:

I'm planning a first timer ski trip to shoemountain in WV. I've read a LOT on lenses and have two lenses to purchase in mind...
I've had my D5000 for about a year now and have only the std 18-55 lens.

First, is the Nikon 18-200 which I have used previously and is a VERY all around lens.

Second is the Nikon 10-24mm. I dont have much experience on wide angle but LOVE the photos taken with it.

I've never gone to these mountains or on snow either so I'm not familiar with what I'll find, but I had in mind nice landscape pictures and from the resort and stuff to stand out that snow...

Oh, also the SB 900

Thanks

were you meaning snowshoe? if so, its a pretty decen place we used to go there every year.

if you havn't spent much time on the snow i'd say take a cheap point and shoot. the last thing you want to do is be falling on a big bulky dslr.

LOL yeah I always mix them up...

I will be taking one also but I will defineltly NOT take the DSLR when skiing. Too much to handle just with myself and learning to ski

I'm not a fan of the 18-200mm vr, you're sacrificing quality and lens speed for convenience of a large zoom range. I only recommend this lens to people that use their DSLR for taking snapshots, and have little interest in the art of photography.

An ultra-wide is a great lens to have, but it's fairly specialized. The amount of subject matter it's good for is limited. If you do buy a ultra-wide lens, I think you'd be as well served with a sigma 10-20mm for half the price as the nikon 10-24mm.

Other suggestions would include:

35mm 1.8
70-200mm f2.8 VR
105mm f2.8 micro

Tks dj,
All I've read about sigmas are "Stay Away!!!". True that it's half the price. Have you had good experience with it?

Don't discount that 18-55 - it's very good, does closeups too. Most get their second lens as the 55-200, or the newer replacement 55 300mm.

the sigma 10-20mm bas a great reputation. google
it.

sigma is the best major 3rd party brand, they have been knocked for quality control, but so has nikon.
