Hi everyone,

I have some photos from my second "big photo shoot" since getting my first dslr. I still am just figuring out stuff and experimenting with the camera and not too sure what all I'm doing. So, I would love critique especially about the COMPOSITION of these photos, along with anything else that might help me keep learning and improving. I have 7 photos, so I broke them up in to two separate posts....thank you all in advance! Also, I"m shooting with a Canon t2i and a 50 mm 1.4 lens.

I like #3 but as far as critique or advise, I'm to new to help out there. I will say though that I don't like the branches in #1 and I agree that #2 would have looked better with the whole window.

#1 and #2 need some work composition wise....but #3 I dig =)

Could you say more about the composition issues with the first two? In #1, I tried to position the vertical pipe in the left third of the shot (versus center), and I thought the tree branches in the foreground were a nice addition of color as well as helped to lead the eye back through the shot in the same manner as the diagonal wall did......

With #2, I chose not to capture all of the window in an effort to block out some other very distracting elements that you don't see in the shot. I also wanted the orange paint splash and the brown sand bags to be in the bottom left corner to help balance out things.

So, the good news is I was trying to think about composition while shooting, but I guess I was thinking a bit incorrectly! LOL.....so yeah, I'd love to hear your own thoughts. Thanks--------

I'm not the best person to be answering because I'm just starting out but in #1 the branches are the first thing my eyes focus on

The branches in 1 are distracting as mentioned before, but personally I like 2! I don't know what it is but I like the L shape of it. Also 3 is your winner as stated by everyone!

Thanks so much. Jeanelle--I'm glad to hear that you like #2...perosnally, I like it too, and I agree about the L-shape. I also like the muted color pallete, but with the splash of orange paint on the wall.

And isn't it funny sometimes how your "winner" photo is totally unexpected...I was having a seat waiting on my husband in the men's room. I started looking around in this room where there had previously been a lecture, noticed the odd lighting, the rows of chairs, and just started shooting. Then I turned around behind me and saw this great scene, so I shot some more. Guess that's what they call "working a scene!" :-) Next time my husband needs to use the restroom,I guess I won't complain! Best part about it was that immediately after I took this shot, the clean-up crew showed up and started tearing down all the chairs......

I really appreciate everyone's comments and do find these helpful. Thanks again--

IMO i like only part of the window being shown in #2. Everything is good i think in #1 but what everybody is saying about the branch. #3
