I'm hoping some one of you can tell me. I've been watching and photographing this Black Capped Chickadee for some months now. Long enough that I'm pretty sure it is the same bird and that there is only one. I've watched and studied it's habits, flight to and from the feeder, always the same feeder, always the same activity at the feeder. It appears to have a tuft, crest or top knot. I've watched and photographed hundreds of Black Capped Chickadees. I've done exhaustive online searches for any other birds like this one. I've found no documentation for another like it. I'll post this one photo, I have dozens of this one bird.

From Wikipedia, it's to early for me to compare birds so this is your homework Mr😉.

Adults are 11.5–13 cm (4.5–5.1 in) long with a weight of 9–12 g (0.32–0.42 oz), and have a black cap and bib with white sides to the face. Their underparts are white with rusty brown on the flanks; their back is gray. They have a short dark bill, short wings and a moderately long tail. Very similar to the black-capped chickadee, the Carolina chickadee is distinguished by the slightly browner wing with the greater coverts brown (not whitish fringed) and the white fringing on the secondary feathers slightly less conspicuous; the tail is also slightly shorter and more square-ended.

Oh, Digger, thank you, thank you. Going to Wiki now. Hope you've helped me solve this little puzzle!!!

Hmmm, doesn't say anything about the larger, fluffier feathers sticking out of the crown, but thanks.

Let us know what you come up with, you got anymore pics of him. Gotta build a paved base for the chook shed this morning but I'll try and compare your pic later on today.

But someone might call in here and let you what he or she is definitely is👍.

There just out of place feathers, the dopey bird🤣.

I have dozens more photos. Been shooting it since December. Those feathers are longer , wider and fluffier than any that should be there. Thanks for your response. I don't think we've nailed it yet. Please check back. I hope some one else can help us.

Looks more like a Carolina chickadee than a black capped. He's definitely a cutie, very interested in those seeds.

Yeah nah it's got me stuffed, there both very similar. An unfamiliar bird for me to make a call on Mr...

I'm more puzzled by the anomaly than the species. I've never see a Chickadee with a pronounced top knot before.
