Two dials VS One dial

Hello all!
I am slowly thinking of upgrading from my D40x to another body (thinking primarily to d300) for two reasons: built-in autofocus and more buttons. Mostly, buttons to change white balance faster than via menus, and two dials for being able to change aperture rapidly in Manual mode. Have any-one of you upgraded for these or similarly reasons and was it a good upgrade?

i havent upgraded yet.. but last week iwas using my mums d70.. and i LOVED having a separate dial for aperture..

The one nice thing about starting out on a cheap superzoom and learning all this photography stuff is, when I do go for a dSLR (doubtful for a VERY long time, maybe when the government bails ME out with all this "free" money they think they have....) I will know exactly what I want. A NON-kit lens and 2 dials on the camera are my top wants for a dSLR.
