im not sure what to think. But one of my kids has a microscope i bought them so i guess i could find out. i have a feeling putting some sand pebbles under there i wont come out with the same result??

It's worth a shot. Although I think in the article it mentions extensive focus stacking.

I think it depends on the source of the sand. On the west coast, most of our sand comes from erosive processes creating tiny rock pebbles out of the mountains that are then deposited on the shore by streams and rivers. In areas such as Florida, a lot comes from erosion of old seabeds, which includes coral and shells.

I imagine that most sand is just very small rocks.
