unconventional because of the composition. However, I thought it still worked out even though it broke the "leave looking room for your subject" although flowers don't really have eyes c&c welcome!

The composition is excellent. As you stated, there is no space for the eye to breathe, but your use of the rule of thirds has negated that. The creamy blurred stem draws your eye in. And, if that isn't enough, the pistils on the flower are sharp against the bokeh. The purple is soft and beautiful.
