Greetings,

I am thinking of buying a new lens. There are two lenses I am taking into consideration the 70-200mm vr II 2.8 and the 24-70mm 2.8. I usually shoot portraits, and landscapes. In

the next few months I'll be traveling and really wondering which one of these would be a great choice for me.

Just want to point out that I have two lenses: kit lens 18-105mm, and 50mm 1.8g, so this upgrade will be a big jump and I really appreciate your suggestions.

As a travelling set up, any day set up really, a wide zoom, a fast normal prime and a tele zoom make for a very good combination. You don't say weather you are on FX or DX, I suspect DX. On DX the 24-70 is a bit awkward, I have a 28-70 and did not find that very useful on DX. For strictly portraits on DX your 50 is a good length and an 85mm AF-D (or G if you must) would make an excellent addition to your kit.

For futur move to FX, if ever you might make the jump, a good set-up would be 17-35 or 16-35 VR, 50 1.4, 70-200. For DX: 17-35 (or 16-35), 35 1.8 or 1.4, 70-200.

So, get the 70-200 and enjoy a fantastic lens on whatever body you choose to mount it on.

edit: the reviewers seem to like the 24-120 as a good every day sort of lens. Would work on a DX or FX. For DX I'd add a wide DX zoom and sell it if ever you move to FX.

Thanks Patrice :D.

I have nikon d7000, sorry for not mentioning that.

I think I'm getting the 70-200 since it has superb image quality and it is fantastic for portraits.

I love my 24-120 F4 VR for walk around on my D7000.
