The eyes should be in focus. Looks like you just pointed and shot with out locking focus. This often happens to m in the heat of the moment. I would tweak the levels and curves a bit more to make it pop.

Yes, I totally agree with you!!! One (or at least I) gets overly excited "in the heat of the moment" & snaps the picture. I must learn to stay calm when taking a shot of opportunity. As to the curves, I played with them & this I thought was the best under the circumstances. Thank you for taking time to comment.
