Using only one light is a challenge. I had them too close to the wall and had to adjust the shadow in Photoshop along with the shadow color cast. The girls had fun is the main thing. We tried the confetti throw a few times and they were okay photos, but not all 3 were in sync.

I made the background hearts in Photoshop and printed on cardstock. They are strung together with thread.

What a trio of cuties!!!! I'm surprised you didn't get shadow on the wall from the hearts with only one light, or is that some of the Ps work you talked about?? Of the set, I like the 2nd and third the best. There's something about the arrangement on the first that's throwing me off, and with nothing to separate them, the dresses are blending together. The 2nd shot is probably my favorite, because it showcases that pretty little face. The expressions in the last one are priceless. Processing looks good for the fair skin.

Getting three in sync would be hard. When it requires something thrown, I generally have DW standing just outside the frame with a handful to throw from above. As long as I have any arm movement on the subject, it appears the they threw it. DW's also a little more coordinated in throwing on command (most of the time, LOL).

The shadow was bottom right of wall. I am guessing from the light fall off? There is a doorway recess area there so space is tight. After fiddling with the first one it was faster with editing the others. I used Viveza to select that area of wall color to add light and brush in. There was spill onto the subjects. I did the same with Nik Remove color cast on that area.

The first photo is an odd pose because of the V and not a triangle. The 2yo has a short time limit and I didn't realize it until I was editing.

I can see where a second light would help immensely. I did position the hearts so there would not be shadow, but I think it was too far of a reach when you have 3 in a scene. The individual closeups worked good with one light.

I like this set, a lot! I think you could drop your exposure in post 1/3 - 1/2 stop as they seem a little hot to me. Not bad, but just enough that it's noticeable. I see where you were going with the pose (I believe) and IMO, it's not so much the 'V' vs 'triangle' that is the issue, rather that they're what I would call "sloppy" formal. That is, they're standing up, but leaning a bit this way and that... to me, it doesn't seem to fit the character in their faces (and I'm guessing there's a LOT of character there! ) I would be tempted to try with the youngest on the stool and the other two sitting on the ground, casually leaning against the stool, maybe looking up at her, stuff like that. A little more casual....

Sloppy formal a new photography term? Great idea on having the other 2 sitting on the ground. I bought a white crate, but wasn't sure how that would match with the stool. And I was thinking head heights too varied. I'll play with the exposure. Daughter likes their photos on the lighter side. Yes, they are all 3 characters. It was easier posing the 3 schnauzers.

@CherylL The nice thing about this being a hobby is the ability to change with the wind. For awhile I was into the dark and moody, but of late I'm more into the light and airy. To me the "hot" that Tirediron mentioned seems more like the issue you are going to have with multiple subjects and one light.

This step stool from Denny is a bit pricey, and I'm sure you could find one local a lot cheaper.
Adam (here on TPF) uses something similar with his son. Given that my knees aren't what they used to be, I'm looking for alternatives to get my granddaughter off the floor at a more comfortable working height.

I like the step stool and will keep an eye out at the second hand stores. I took a Creative Live family posing class last year which helped posing the family for Christmas. I need to research posing for 3 children. As a hobby I don't want to invest too much. I hear you on the knees! Getting up and down from the floor takes longer.

It's nothing to do with your knees; it's a little-known, but true fact that the floor gets just a little farther away every year. This is why jumping up from your knees to a standing position was easy when you were 20, and just a little harder when you're 50!
