I got an idea about a year ago, of a "train" picture I wanted to take. I searched for about a year to find a location that would yield the results I wanted. Its a sight about a hundred miles from my house. I was finally able to go and get the picture I wanted. Now, I am not sure about something.

I wanted to show a train, against a scenic back drop, 'ARCING' out of the picture.

Now since I have the picture, I found a delima. Sometimes, when I look at it, I am drawn immediately to the locomotives. But other times, my eye just follows the train right out of the picture. I don't know if it is because I wanted to see the end to complete the vision.

So, what do you guys think?

You have 3 great lines leading to the edge -- the cliff slope, the tracks, and the train itself.

I find it hard to look at anything BUT the end of the train..it actually hurts my eyes to look at the begining, its a struggle lol. Im not saying thats a bad thing, I actually enjoy following the train out of the screen.

i agree with Virtuosos. i do find myself being led out of the image, i do find it hard to see the front end of the train without finding my eyes jumping back to the end. maybe you can try a re-composition? i wouldnt really know how hard that would be...from my point of view it seem like quite a journey was taken to reach there.

I'm thinking if the locomotives were "BIGGER" in the picture, you may not be so easily led out of the frame. It ain't easy "posing" a train, but I think I will go back and try catching it with the 70-300 lens a little ways down the track. The engines will be bigger, and the forced prespecive may help to agains the mountian. It a reason for another road trip...lol

You could increase the size of the train by cropping. The foreground doesn't add much, nor does the top part of the sky. A tough concept to capture, but this really does it quite well. The slope of the rock behind the train really adds something.

the original was uncropped. I cropped this a little, although not a traditional size
