Want to upgrade Computer

Hello,

I want to upgrade my desktop. I use mostly LR or Corel, will probably upgrade sometime soon. I'm shooting with an a-900 and an Oly 620.
It's been a few years since my last upgrade I'd like to keep it under 800 bucks, thats just for the tower everything else is fine.
What's recommended..

For image editing a video/graphics card that is OpenGL capable is very handy. Editing applications can utilize memory on the video/graphics card and the card's GPU.

Another way to look at it is that for image editing many gaming computer features come in very handy.

So quad processor, 32-bit OS, 8 or more MB of Ram, and partioned storage and scratch disc space out the wazoo.

You'll need a 64-bit OS if you want to use that much RAM.
But anyway, as KmH said, you want a good graphics card, lots of RAM and lots of disk space.

I think he meant 64-bit OS with 8 GB or more RAM. 32 bit can't utilize more than 4 GB of RAM. 8MB of RAM?? Good luck opening any editing program with that let alone any images.

Yes, probably a typo or something... but just wanted to be sure the OP knew there was a mistake... In addition, of course you'll need a 64-bits motherboard to start with, but I'm not even sure if 32-bits are that easy to get lately...

Gosh, I have 4GB of RAM on a 64-bit 2.13GHz Pentium and run PS-CS6, LR4, Chrome, and Outlook concurrently without issue.

With that slow of a processor 4GB would be just fine. Keith did type MB and not GB, you do know the difference I assume?

The OP doesn't NEED to upgrade. He WANTS to upgrade. Different.

Not knowing what's already in the PC makes it hard to make any recommendation. PC upgrades have a tendency to morph into full built very quickly !

Hehehe... Nope! But then, I never got into those multiple-image images. Perhaps someday I'll try one, though.
