I have a nikon D90 with a 18-105VR.

However, I'm not enthusiastic about the lens, and have been looking at a 16-85 VR. I'm also considering the 17-55mm, and I have read great things about the 24-70. Only problem with 24-70 is that I have DX, so that's like a 36mm minimum focal length.

What are you guys' thoughts? I'm more into landscape/walk around shots for this lens. For wildlife I already have a telephoto. I also have a Sigma 10-20 3.5, which I plan on keeping (eventually want to upgrade to FX) so maybe a 24-70 wouldn't be so bad on a DX?

thoughts?

The 24-70 range is known as one of the best all-around focal ranges out there. Don't think of the focal range in terms of 35mm equivalent. Remember, 24mm and 70mm are always going to be 24 and 70, regardless of the camera. If you're not sure what to get, borrow or rent and see if the different ranges work for you.

Also, you have an 18-105. Have you thought about going on a photowalk and simply limiting yourself to 24-70 to see if it's an appropriate range for you? I wouldn't worry too much about the wide end. You already have a 10-20, so you have the wide end covered. It sounds like you just want a high quality all around type lens. It would be hard to do better than a 24-70.
