Whenever I publish a photo (put in on the internet or hand out a USB-stick to schoolmates I put "©Max Schröder" on it.
Somewhere outside of the main object, but in a spot where it can't be "cropped away".
I got paid for image-rights once, so the buyer got the original image, without the watermark (but my name still in the Metadata).
I think that is a good way to do it, as putting it in the center of the image would be quite a disturbance.
