Watermarks? Photo editing?

Hello!

I am just curious what programs you all use to put watermarks or your name (and copyright) on your pictures? Also, what programs do you use to sharpen your images or change them from color to black and white?

HOLY CRAP! They want $650 for that. I guess I'll wait for a while... just spent that much last week for my camera. Ouch!

I'm not sure (I haven't done watermarks) but I believe you should be able to accomplish the same in Photoshop Elements which is a fraction of the cost.

I use a program called GIMP . it's similar to photoshop. what i do for some simple watermarks is add a layer of the text in grey and make is transparent onto the image. also you can make pictures black and white on GIMP.

Photoshop is the way to go. I think they have like 15 day trials. I think maybe Photoshop Elemements might be the next best thing...

I used an old version of Photoshop CS2.

If on a budget, as mentioned, check out Photoshop Elements. Paint Shop Pro is also worth a mention.

Download the Gimp and check it out. It's free and it will probably be enough for you to get started with. I used it for quite some time when I was on Linux, its a great program, but it's not Photoshop.

You can do everything you asked about and much much more in photoshop elements and it is under 100 bucks. A great book to go along with the program is....The Photoshop elements book for digital photographers by scott kelby. It is great!

I use Photoshop Elements 5.0 - newest version is 6.0 I believe.

I go to used book stores and get "how to" books that teach Photoshop CS2 or CS3. So far, Elements can do all the "photo fixing" stuff used by CS2/CS3 - but I'm only using basics.

I got Elements for little under $100 - I think you can get it for less @ CostCo (~70 maybe).

Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 does what you are asking for and it doesn't cost any more than Elements6. I recently purchased it for $50 CAD from Sig Electronics.

It has a lot more to offer over Elements, and a lot less $$ than Photoshop (I wish I could afford PS though).

Not sure about watermark, ut for very basic editing download "picasa" which is FREE from Google. If Elements allows text insertion, you should be able to make watermarks (reduce opacity about 50-60%). I used Picasa for a while and then recieved Elements 8 as a gift and was able to upgrade to Photoshop CS3 for a fraction of the cost

Oh yeah... with Picasa there's great organizational tools for all of your photos. When you download it - it will ask if you want it to automatically find all of your pictures... chose "yes"... it will find every picture on your computer... I found things I forgot about and others I though were lost!
