I just found out a coworker of mine who I'm pretty good friends with was in a motorcycle accident on Sunday morning. She was a passenger not wearing a helmet and fractured her skull. She is in a coma. The driver (not sure if he was wearing a helmet) only had a few scratches. So please, please wear a helmet.

That is all.

No choice here, we have to by law. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the "wind through the ears" feeling.

I do hope your coworker recovers well.

jeeese :?

i have to fight with the hubby to wear a seat belt :? .. but its well worth the fight  ... hope she's gonna be ok

That sad to hear, in Florida you only need an $10,000 insurance policy not to wear a helmet, like that going to help

Preaching to the choir here, Voo. I can't imagine climbing onto one of those things without one, passenger or driver. Hell I'm glad to have my bike helmet on when I get going fast downhill.

I sure hope she recovers soon. It's very sobering to learn of something like that.

it's the law here too...
and i don't feel like it's 'forcing' me to wear one...
it's common sense!
if i'm are going faster than i can run... on any mode of transport... i wanna wear some sort of sensible protection... i don't wanna knock myself out, never mind anything worse!
I really can't understand why people wouldn't want to wear a helmet when they're on a bike... it really hurts when you come off....

Yo,
It's not a law here (I think, in Texas) and I just want to scream every time I see someone on a motorcycle without a helmet.
Is it really worth it to avoid the helmet hair, to have severe head trauma even death?
Cripes!
Me, the Flea

Funny you should say that. My friend is from Wisconsin.

A little update:
Yesterday her temp rose to 110. Anything over 106 is brain damage
today her temp dropped back down to 102 so it's looking a little better.

hope your friend recovers. thats horrible. :(

You'd think people would take care of themselves, if not for themselves but for the people that love and care about them. I little prevention goes a long way.

if i remember correctly(jeff correct me if i am wrong), when i lived in florida bicyclists were required to wear helmets but motorcylists weren't.

Well....Yes and no. You have to be at least 18 and show you have at least $10,000.00 in health coverage or a state approved motorcycle safety course.

Me, I rode a Harley for three years and always wore a full faced helmet. I caught alot of crap from my other biker friends for doing so, but unlike them I understood basic physics. In a contest between your head and the road, the road will always win.

i think its a tragedy, but people will continue to do potentially dangerous acts; not wearing helmets, having sex without condoms, doing drugs and keeping guns around children

im not for a government forcing people to keep thier lives safe, im for u do what u want, we all make decisions that are right for us .... for my family, i will always continue to "force" my hubby to wear a seat belt and wear a hat & scarf in the winter  ... but i want my hubby to continue to be healthy so he can hear my nagging for yrs to come

people do things for different reasons, perhaps they want to live on the edge ... perhaps the risk outway the benefits? .... as long as all parties involved know the risk before they enter in a situation ... rock on!!!! 8)

I have a buddy who used to be big into bikes. He's the typical tattooed tough guy. He had a job at Harley Davidson...his job was to go recover the bikes every monday of the people that died over the weekend. He said biz was always good...now he never rides.
