Wedding and second photographer

I would jump all over the idea of second shooting for somebody. I check the local Craigslist gigs section on a daily basis and submit my portfolio for any gig I feel I might be a fit for and than some that I dont. Im sorry but your friend sounds like a stuck up *****!

I've been 1st, 2nd 3rd even 4th camera on the job...
Person/studio w/ the contract gets the publicity regardless of how well the others one done. I had however, instances where clients have found me later on and used me directly, at which point a Standard 1st round commission of 10% I have given to the studio.
During film days, I delivered the film and got payed for the job. With digital, depending on the job, at the end of the day give the card to 1st shooter, get paid and leave. Now that my camera has 2 cards, I shoot on both and ONLY use the images to show of fellow photographers/studios (NOT CLIENTS) and even that with permission from the person/studio for whom I shot the job. But I shoot cards regardless of the job for safety concerns and when the job is loaded on computer & backed up, cards get cleaned.
Prices are simple:
I have prices that are for my clients and wholesale that are for times when I'm hired by someone else to shoot a job. Price w/ editing is higher then w/o editing - and its b/c it involves extra time.

hope that helps.
Good Luck

Thanks everyone. I really think she lost out and also bailed on my other shoot I was doing with her, which is huge because it involves a concert with an American Idol finalist so it was her lost. I found two new photographers for both events and made some pretty good contacts through all of them. So in the end, it worked out the best, at least for me.

hello. I am a student going to school for photography. I was a second shooter for a wedding recently and didn't get paid at all, I just needed the experience. I am doing my own wedding in july so that is why I am shadowing and 2nd shooting. The other photographer still let me use these photos for my portfolio which is mainly what I am doing right now. I know a lot of other photographers that are going to school that need more experience, I would suggest looking for local students as well. :) just throwing in my 2 cents :)
