We originally planned to go to the Keys, but they were wiped out... so went to Savannah for a few days, then to a beach resort called Sea Island.

This batch are just some from my cell phone, did a wedding the day before we left so I've had no time to look at the pics from my camera, and didn't even take that many -- I was camera'd out.

“If you go to Atlanta, the first question people ask you is, "What's your business?" In Macon they ask, "Where do you go to church?" In Augusta they ask your grandmother's maiden name. But in Savannah the first question people ask you is "What would you like to drink?”
John Berendt, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Been several years since I've been to Savannah. Your photos make me want to go back. It's a place to relax and just spend some time. Nice set

Yeah, walking around drinking was awesome. Learned a lot -- took a few tours. Apparently they outlawed lawyers and alcohol at one point...

so many good eats too!

Very fine. How do you like that Tammy 24-70 btw?

Had it for years now; sharp and fast. They can be picked up for a song now that the G2 and new Sigma have come out.

I get a little bored by it, but it always produces a very clean, crisp image, that always looks great. It's a bit soft in the extreme corners when fully wide, but not that bad and I usually crop in a bit when I shoot at 24mm.

But it doesn't have the rendering of some of these more "artist" primes available. The transition into OOF isn't always the smoothest, for example in this shot: DSC_2603 The distiller is really sharp and detailed and looks great, but look at that PVC pipe in the foreground to the top left. It looks nervous to me, almost double exposed or motion blurred. I've seen worse lenses in this regard, but I have primes that handle OOF much better. But IMHO -- this looks way better at 50mm than the Nikon 50mm 1.8G.

Same thing here: DSC_2573 look at the BG, it's not a mushy smooth blur, look at the vertical stack in the BG at full size -- it's like it has a few edges to it.

I'd be curious to see how the G2, Sigma, and Nikon versions all do here. But I bought it for cost:performance -- way cheaper than the Nikon, the VC stabilization is VERY good, it's smaller than the Nikon with an extending barrel.

I keep it mounted most of the time, the zoom range is very versatile and I know I'm going to get decent images from it. If I didn't need the speed, I might consider other lenses in it's stead.

Looks idyllic. Nice shots.

Really great sets!

You've taught me that I don't use my cell phone camera nearly enough! I always say "wow! how pretty, I wish I had my camera with me" and completely ignore my phone camera.

You've definitely demonstrated here that "its not the camera, its the photographer"

Love the plantation photo from the first set, and the Girls! Girls! Girls! Sign made me giggle.

Thanks for sharing!

:p yeah, honestly, sometimes the cell phone shots come out better -- not quite the DR or IQ but somehow they just look better -- might be the FOV or something I dunno -- having HDR on every photo doesn't hurt.

It's possible I even like that you can shoot super fast on them, but everything is in focus due to the tiny sensor size.

Take the row of oak trees in each set: on the Pixel phone, it was shot at f/2, 1/1000sec, and iso50 and it's mostly all in focus.

on the Nikon I shot it at: f/6.3, 1/125, iso100.

BUT -- you say that, but I was kicking myself that I DIDNT have my camera with me and missed those cool golden light shots...

what was better is they weren't lying!

You may have missed them on the big camera, but at least you got something! Ive started taking a drive early Friday mornings into the city for an activity and the lighting is simply to die for. It would take me less than 5 minuets to pull over and grab a few amazing shots, but I just never do! Though, I do quite enjoy my early morning drives down the mountain at least.

my drive into work used to reveal a few amazing sunrises this time of year, the few times I took advantage I wasn't disappointed. However, I just recently got a new job where I can sleep in 2 hours later, the drive is 5min, and I still get home at the same time each day :P

It's a rare occasion that compels me out of the house before 7 am in general! now that I've committed to this once a week adventure, pretty as it may be, once a week is plenty.

It sounds awesome that you were able to shorten your commute, I hope you love the job more as well!
