This photo from last year bugs me as it could have been a really nice shot but the light really buggered it up. Most of my fly fishing pictures are taken with a Fujifilm FinePix XP50 waterproof point and shoot because I am terrified of dropping my DSLR in the drink. I am usually wading and the rocks in the Arkansas river are terribly slippery. I would hate to admit how many times I have slipped and submerged myself! Anyway, had this shot been taken with the DSLR what could I have done to improve it? Thanks for looking.

Hmm, I would think a lens hood would have prevented some of the flare. I actually like it though, I think it adds to the Atmosphere.. Could also have been shot in raw to give more leeway in post..

Thanks for the reply, I believe you're right about the hood. The photo frustrates me because at least to my eye it had a lot of potential. Maybe I can recreate with my son sometime this spring. Thanks again for the reply.

Mostly it just seems a bit underexposed for my taste, you get that with backlighting though. I do however really like the backlit effect on the line and water drops.

I like it, though cutting some of the flare to emphasize the line and the bugs in the air would really do it imo.
