could it be a guassian or radial blur used on the background and then masked off the car?

I do it all the time, I open a handfull of threads from the new posts list then go threw them one by one.

Yup, I do the same. I was on dialup for the longest time before broadband was finally available to me in 2005. It's an old habit to open many threads in different windows/tabs and go back through and read them. I use to do it because I could read the first thread opened while waiting for the superslow dialup to load the other threads.
