What Do You Use For Gear Bag/Case

Currently using a number of smaller soft cases to house equipment which then goes in a lightweight back pack. Works OK to a point, but requires a lot of sorting and invariably I end up without something that I need. Its' also not the most secure for travel. Years ago I used a hard side case/trunk with foam cutouts inside that held everything safe and secure. Just curious what others use to transport gear?

Agree! I've got more than my share... My normal every day bag is a ThinkTank roller. For event work, I have a BIG Lowepro shoulder bag, for occasions when I don't need as much gear or will need to move around a lot, I have a two back-pack style. I also have a sling and several 'single body & lens' variations.

I recently got it, and although right now it holds everything for my Canon, I may have to switch a few things up if I also want to carry my Leica and/or another lens.

First, for flying, it does in to a soft-sided duffle-bag surrounded by clothes and as carry-on baggage. I once had camera gear checked and two bags of gear were lost (this was 1988) and since then I have never checked camera gear. Never. I'll send it via someone like FedEx in a hardshell or I carry it on by hand.

Second, for carrying around, I have:
--A tamrac holster
--a converted fanny pack originally designed to hold 2 water bottles (but those holders are superb for big zooms).
--an Under Armour waterproof day pack that I've put a Timbuktu insert in to--it holds gear plus food, water, and some layered clothing (like hat, gloves, fleece top, rain coat).
--a camera backpack (which I almost never use to travel with--I story a second and third body in it).
--a tactical vest which is ideal for when I have to carry and access my gear in a car (so a backpack or sling isn't that practical).
--a messenger bag that will hold my MacAir plus a bunch of bodies and lens (can't remember who made it).
--a Lands End bag that is thinner than my messenger bag and has no camera label on it (so safer in a crowd or bad environment).

What I use depends upon the circumstances.

I travel with camera and lens in a soft bag
then I use my pockets or a waist pack walking around with the camera and pancake lens

These days I use a Case Logic backpack w/laptop compartment and/or a Tenba Messenger bag (Large).

Lowepro Pro Trekker 450 AW and Fastpack BP 250 AW II. Had a CompuRover AW before that and it was good, but a little cumbersome to open the bottom. I also have Lowepro lens cases for my bigger lenses.

I've got a Tamrac Pro 16 that I really like, that's pretty much my main bag. I have a Tamrac backpack as well, it's an older one but it can accommodate a laptop with a 17" screen as well as my photo equipment so I held on to it. I don't use it a lot but every once in a while it comes in handy.

I also have the Lowepro S&F Utility harness and belt (it's so batman like... lol) that has a couple of small lens cases and an S&F 200 AW lens exchange case.. which rocks. I can carry one lens mounted on the camera and easily switch even on the go with another lens from the case.

I also have a smaller bag or two (mostly tamrac) that I can throw a couple of lenses and a camera body into when I just need a few bits and bobs for where I'm headed. A lot of times I'll leave the big bag with everything in it at home, and just take what I need for the day with me. Works pretty well overall. I like the tamrac bags with their modular systerm, I can add various other lens cases to the side, etc, to customize it for my needs pretty quickly that way.
