Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
hi guys. im planning to pick up a dslr soon but i dont know what to pick up. i was looking at the d90 and the t2i but i dont know anything;)

im planning to do scenery type of photography.

my range of spending is about $1200.

any input is great

This isn't much help at all, but I'm saving up for the T2i. I picked it over others because, a) It's a canon, and b) I really like the video it's capable of with a mic jack. I'm a beginner, but I heard that lenses are very very important so I would make sure you get some good lenses, so save some money for that.

both are great cameras. i suggest going to your local camera shop and check them both out

Best advice so far comes from Nay.
Go handle some cameras. See how they feel when you actually play with them. Read up on them. dpreview.com is a great site for in depth reviews and comparisons.

Smitzel, your reason "a) it's a canon"...is this due to you already being invested in the canon system? If not, I'm genuinely curious as to what swayed you.
If more weight fell on the mic input, well then that's a damn fine reason! I wish my d90 had an external mic jack. :D

$1200 is enough to get you a nice set up...decent body and a nice wide angle lens for your landscapes. People love the sigma 10-20 for landscape. Roughly 700 for a d90 and around 479 for the sigma puts you right at your budget. Don't shy away from the kit lenses though...you can easily find a kit 18-55 used for $100...speaking from the nikon side, it's a fine little lens and 18mm on a crop body isn't HORRIBLE in my opinion.

Pick up a used 5d. Shouldn't run you more than around 1100

Lol it's more for the mic jack. and no I'm not invested in anything, I really don't even have a relevant reason why "it's a canon" inspired me to get it. Just something about it.

the type of scenery i'd like to do is take pictures of night life, nature(flowers, trees, etc),

so will a t2i do the job? and yes im going to buy wide lenses...

That and portraiture are what the 5d is best at...

D90 for me.. larger grip and better ergos (two control dials instead of one..)

Maybe I missed something... is the $1200 budget for camera or camera+lens?

Both are good but I personally would go for a cheaper body (even used) if it gets me into a better lens(es)

Not me. You can always buy lenses later and pick and chose what you want to buy. I'd start with a good body first.

You can pick up a used 5d for around a grand...
