He probably got tired of the crap that was going on, inspired by LS. If I remember the timing correctly.

Lightspeed was indeed removed - an administration decision based on him being, well, a major administrative burden on the site. Not to mention stirring up considerable trouble here and there.

I've chatted with Ron, he is doing well. He has moved on. I hope he decides to come back in time, he was such a wonderful contributor.

As far as LS he went on to another site after leaving here and did a fine job of trash talking just about everyone here.
