What happened?

Why are there streaks in the middle of this photo? I was using a hood. I cleaned my lens and sensor beforehand. Anybody have insight?

Flare from sunlight striking the lens.

A hood can only block so much light before it starts to vignette into the image.

Another cause could be the filter you are using. Take it off and see if the flare goes away.

that and your UV filter was still attached for some reason...

It does look like there was a slightly oily filter in front of the lens. The streaks look almost prismatic like you would see from an oily surface....

Kind of like using a cleaner and not getting it all off.

I've had photos like that when I've .. I mean someone else, used Windex on one of my lenses and didn't totally clean it off.

Silly wabbit, windex is for windows and mirrors, not camera wenses.

It looks like you didn't get all the lens cleaner off. Having done that myself then go out and all ALL my photos had a similar film/glare on them. You just need to either clean again or wipe with a clean lens cloth then see how it looks. If the glare is still there it might be be any filters you have on (extra glass can act odd sometimes in certain light) or just your normal run of the mill lens flare.

Hoods only lesson lens flare they don't take it away entirely.
