What is a good camera to buy for a beginner?

Assuming you are on a limited budget then Nikon D3300 or Nikon D3400 with kit lens, these are excellent cameras, very affordable and offer menus designed specifically to people who are new to photography.

Hi.

I would recommend you to go for Nikon D3300. I must say it’s best choice for beginners. Apart from its excellent picture quality it doesn’t even wipe out your budget completely. In camera kit you will get both wide and telephoto lenses, which is quite a cool combination. It even has the ability to record 1080p video at 60 FPS which makes it a good choice for videographers as well. I think it’s probably the best for all who are interested in photography and videography.

There is a temptation to buy one of those "55-piece" kits that includes everything you could possibly want/need to take terrific photographs for only a few hundred dollars more than the basic camera.

Avoid that temptation.

You would not actually be saving money in the long run, because most of the extra stuff is not very high-end, and some is downright useless. So eventually, if you're like most of us, you will toss all that extra stuff in a drawer and start buying better stuff.

Depending on your tolerance for buying used gear, there are some very good deals on lightly-used gear that actually will save you significant money.

Whether new or used, post a hotlink on here for a deal you're interested in, and ask our opinion. I concur with above, the Nikon D3300 or D3400 if you can afford it, is an excellent starting rig.

Most cameras in the same price range will have the comparable features. One thing you should do is go to the local Best Buy or Target and actually pick up the various cameras. Judge how they "feel" and where the controls are. If using the camera feels awkward, you're probably not going to enjoy using it.

THIS ^^^^^^, I totally agree. These have a large-text HELP menu system on the resar LCD that can be switched on easily, or turned off. VERY helpful, has some neat illustrations. Price is right too, and these both have excellent performing, high-MP sensors.

If you like the flippy screen, investigate a Nikon D5400.

Without knowing your budget, there's a wide range of options available from both Canon and Nikon. I agree with Designer, don't get wooed by extras in a kit. Most of it is junk and all you really need to start out is the camera, lens and the manual.
