Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I am SO frustrated right now! I CAN'T get Lightroom to run at all!! I've tried tech support etc. I give up. What i would like to know is, What other program out there is a good replacement for Lightroom? Good for importing your pics for comparison, etc. I can probably use Photoshop Elements 8 for the rest. What would you folks recommend?

Thanking you all in advance,

Karen

What is Lightroom doing, or not doing, specifically? Maybe we can help you getting it running. If it's a common issue, someone may have already ran into the same problem and found a way around it.

Are you running it stand-alone or as a plug in?

As far as I know, Lightroom is not a plug-in for any other program. Although, it can have some integration with your editing program (whether Photoshop or other).

Karen,
Can you give us more details? What version of LR are you running? What are the specs on your computer? What camera/size of files are you working on? Why isn't tech support working for you?

'm running in stand-alone and it is the new version and when i click on the icon to start it says "Lightroom - Opening Catalogue: IMG 0030 JPG lrcat" which is fine but then i get the box that says 'adobe photoshop lightroom 64-bit has stopped working' and it says it will notify me when it finds an 'answer' tot he problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled etc and I KNOW that this works because I had it on my other laptop before i got this new one. Lightroom can also come as a plug-in?

Maybe you shouldn't be using the 64bit version. Have you tried the 32bit?

aperture is pretty good if you can't get Lightroom working for you. It's like a hybrid of iPhoto and Photoshop and you can do quite a lot with it.

Lightroom may be trying to open a corrupted catalog. Press [Ctrl] while launching and it will open a dialog asking which catalog you would like to use. Try that and choose a different catalog or create a new catalog.

Let us know if that works.

I haven't tried the 32bit.......I just figured where they HAVE a 64bit that I would have to use that but maybe not! Good idea! I think I'll check that out. I can't see any other reason really because this is a NEW laptop....a Dell....and Lightroom's always worked on my other Dells before this one. I will check out the 32bit and get back to you. ;) Thank you very much

Aaaah..Aperture now THAT i would LOVE to have......Unfortunately I don't have a MAC and I've checked to see if 'yet' they've come up with a Windows version but apparently not. I've been wanting Aperture for awhile now :er:

Go ahead and try my suggestion first. I'd bet it will fix the issue.

Ok first I'll try the comment on the possible corrupt catalog. Get back to you all....Thanks :sexywink:

It appears lightroom is trying to open an image as a catalog. "IMG 0030 JPG lrcat"

The catalog name should be something like "Lightroom 2/3 Catalog.lrcat". I think there was a glitch, but opening a different or new catalog should fix the problem. :)

Bummer. Sorry I couldn't help. I was pretty certain that would have worked.
