What's new

What is the most ideal condition for a 50mm lens?

Because I don't have one. Why not just shut up if you have no interest in the topic?

Just a thought.

Now there's an EXCELLENT way to entice people to provide assistance when you ask for it. Damn well thought out.

Yup why should people help if your just going to tell them to shut up.

Again the suggestion to try it is still a vary good suggestion.

I make it a point to never buy a lens without trying it first.

Most idea conditions for a 50mm lens??? 24x 36 capture format, film or digital....nude model...wide-open beach devoid of people...sunset sun rays slanting in...15 foot camera-to-subject distance...August evening...good 10-12 MPH breeze out of the east... ideal!!!!

Why not just go out and try it out?

Well that escalated quickly. My point is people can only tell you so much information. They will give your their opinion.

What is more important is knowledge you will learn from doing. One person might find it limiting for portraits or street....whereas you might find it perfect.

I personally love my 50mm. It is a go to lens for me for all sorts of things. Currently I have a 50mm 1.4 and a 70-200 f4 and what I've found from my own experience is I need something wider because I really like environmental portraits and sometimes the 50mm just isn't wide enough.

Now see I didn't need to ask a forum to figure this out. I just went out and shot some **** and some people and went..."Hmmmm, I could use something a little wider."

Its not rocket science.

For panoramic pics and wide shots, you'd be better off with a wide angle lens.
50mm you can use for street shots, but don't try to get a big building on your photo, will not work.

GHAAA damned !
Just bought a 50mm lens 'cause I thought it was rocket science and now someone there on the internet right there is telling me it's not the real rocket science !! :angry1:

I find the 50mm one of the most versatile lenses of all. If I'm going somewhere and know I'll be taking photos but am not sure of the conditions or specific subjects, I just stick my 50mm on and more often than not, it manages to suit just about everything.

Folks, since i am so new using camera with changeable lenses i want to ask about this nifty 50. Like it is noted in the website. Maximum aperture 1:1.8. Does that mean that you can not lower it to F/2.8 as example ?
Is it only usable at F/1.8 Canon U.S.A. : Consumer & Home Office : EF 50mm f/1.8 II

You can use it from 1.8 down to whatever. 1.8 is the largest it will open, the higher the number, the smaller the lens gets OR you could say that 1.8 is "faster" than 2.8 because it allows more light so you can use a faster shutter speed

Thank you very much for the info.
