I prefer Kodak Disk cameras.

What a joke of a camera. The only time I was glad I had it was when my girlfriend was able to stuff it down her pants and get it into a Poison concert we went to. It's a shame that it wasn't a real camera because for all the work getting it in and the risk I took snapping pics, without a zoom and with a crappy little flash, the whole disk of pictures was utterly worthless.. Another moped.

hahaha... wasn't it you I was talking to about this today?

Man, I gotta get my dad to dig up his snazzy disc camera. :)

Technically it is a Chrysler as Dodge is under the Chrysler umbrella. Depending on the year model you could call it a Mercedes. (well Daimler)

;)

i just recently got my first dslr. i have a bunch of friends that are into photography, mostly canons and nikons. so i naturally held, shot, played with all their cameras (5D, D60, D90, Xti, Xsi) and the nikons just felt more natural to me, i like the way the menus are layed out, the feel in my hands and the look of the camera, and mind you on my lunch break i lived at the wolf camera at the mall holding and shoot ALL they had to offer. but i setteled with my D40 and i love it.

Another vote for Olympus. Eh, but wait, it is not on the list... Pity! By now, Olympus would probably be in front of Sony and Pentax (as well as Sigma, Samsung, Panasonic, Leica, Mamiya, Hasselblad... if they were on the list).

I'm pretty die-hard Canon, chances are I'll stay Canon unless something really drastic happens. I don't really get the folks who constantly brand switch, it's a huge waste of money and energy for fairly small improvements overall. That said, Nikon makes some quality products and I've made some images I'm very proud of using Nikon cameras, so it's not like I'm one of these people who sneers at the other brand without having ever used one. I really enjoyed using the D2x and D2h, I just wouldn't want to take them into a situation that wasn't brightly lit!

edit: it's funny to me to see that Nikon users tend to have stronger 'fanatic' brand loyalty, dating back even to when Nikon really was not fielding cameras that were competitive feature and price wise with Canon, at least on the professional level (the D2h, for example, was selling new up until the release of the D3, and for all intents and purposes did not offer anything over the already thrice replaced Canon 1D. Obviously that has changed with the newer cameras, but it's still interesting nonetheless.

I read this and smile, a lot. Even the D1 gave me good results in available light when shooting live bands. It just takes the right glass and a steady hand. We forget that when viewing a file at 100% on our screen, the noise is much more pronounced than when printed. Also, a noise (grain) free image is a relatively new phenomenon. You and I notice the noise but the buying public for the most part could care less. I often shot the D1X at ISO 640 or 800, f/1.2 to f/2.0 at 1/30th hand held and got great results. Several of my images are on promo posters as long as 6 years ago. One image shot indoors was on a local lumber/hardware stores trucks sized at 8 feet by 14 feet.

And yes, I have a "strong fanatic brand loyalty" to Nikon. How many Canon bodies did the war photojournalists take and bring back from 'nam? There were a lot of Leica rangefinders and Nikon SLR's. When I was looking for my first pro level SLR, Nikon was the only real choice. Canon had just introed the F1 but it didn't sell well compared to the Nikon FTn. At that time Nikon ruled the SLR world and Canon was struggling to get a foothold in the pro arena. So "dating back" Nikon fielded the best and most durable pro level SLR for almost 2 decades and sales proves it. They also fielded the first Pro DSLR under $20,000 in 1999. The D1 was a far better DSLR than the Kodak film body conversions and at 1/4 the price. Canon was caught without an offering and scrambled to come up with something. They did come back and hop scotch past Nikon for several years in the noise arena. And I expect for these two to continue to do so with maybe a third or forth manufacturer to get in the race. Funny thing is, all my manual focus glass still mounts, meters, and shoots on all my D1 series, D3 and D300. Even my 1969 45mm GN. The Nikon F mount has remained unchanged since the 1950's. Most makers had to change there mount when they converted to AF. As for used Nikon gear out there, a lot of fine MF lenses are available with a build quality that is second to none. I still own and shoot many MF lenses.

Funny thing about history, we all have a perspective of our own experiences and often don't look past them. These two have been competitive for 4 decades now and I don't think either is going to throw in the towel.

So yea, I am a fanatical Nikon snob. And proudly so.

I got my first dSLR back in September, and its a Canon.

The main drivers are because I inherited some older lenses that were no longer being used and they were for a Canon Rebel 2000 film camera.

So being on a budget, I decided to buy a body only as I had a 22-55 and a 55-200 lens. Brought them to a store, tried them on a new camera to ensure auto focus and such worked, and there ya go.

I've always been a fan of Canon. Years ago, I had a 2mp Canon P&S camera (cost me $400) and I loved it. A year or so ago, I bought a Nikon P&S (8mp but cost $250) and I wasn't as impressed as I was with the Canon.

everything ive ever seen and experienced has shown that its pretty much a 50/50 split between nikon and canon owners. BUT the thing I've noticed is that it seems Nikon owners are more vocal about their choice, and WHY its better, and need the reconfirmation that their brand is best, and made the best choice.
