I'm looking at getting a telephoto lens for my Nikon D3000. I mostly do outdoor work with horses and dogs, a few people here and there. What lens would y'all recommend? I'm not sure what to look for as far as mm or f-stops.

Um, yeah pretty much but I was born and raised here so it's home. I'm guessing I am not going to much help in the way of lenses?

What is your budget and how far away are you shooting?

Looking at renting a lens until I find THE ONE that I want to commit to so budget isn't really a factor right now. I'll be shooting anywhere from 2 feet to 200 yards.

It sounds like you are looking for a walk-around (super zoom) lens. You could look at the Nikon 28-300 and 18-300mm DX. If you are shooting in ample light these should do fine.

Ok. I forgot to mention, 98% of my subjects will be moving, so will that make a difference on the lens?

If you have plenty of light it shouldn't be as much of an issue.
