what lenses are compatible?

im buying a Nikon D3100. i dont know what lenses are compatible, or what flash, or anything for that matter.

Only AF-S lenses will autofocus, AF and AF-D won't but they will still meter. AI and AI-S are incompatible and you'll therefore have to use your camera in manual only when using those lenses. As for flashes, I'm not sure about the older ones but anything above the SB-600 will definitely work.

Also, any flash that you can mount and that can be set manually will work on nearly all cameras with a flash shoe mount. However exposure information being passed between camera and flash is non-existent with all but specifically designed flashes.
