good dog photo? not sure I have seen one here in a while, even though 75% of people seem to keep posting them.

try and find out what the dog's personality is like and try and capture that in an image. playful, boring, hyper, affectionate. maybe a favorite toy?

just as with people, nail the focus on the eyes and be mindful of your backgrounds.

Yea I will have to agree with everything winky said.

avoid using popup flash as well. shoot in more natural light, near a window, outside, whatever. popup flash and animals indoors is just plain blerck imo

One tip:

Animals close up, with a wide angle lens.

I like to shoot outdoors in natural light. Other than that, definitely agree with bigtwinky

this shot was of my puppy. i had a treat in my hand and she seemed very exicted!!! seemed to work to catch sum expression, which is very important.

Be at their level
Capture their eyes
Watch backgrounds.
I actually think 2 and 3 look good, better maybe with some creative cropping.

everyone knows if you want a good dog picture you need a flag! ... and uber photoshop skills
