WHat scan preparations?

How do i scan negatives the best way? Do i clean the negatives first? What else? We need a sticky on this,lolz.

Well, what scanner do you have?
What scan software will you be using?

I typically set it for around 1200-1800dpi, then unsharp mask set to medium. Thats it, unless the image is so faint its hard for the scanner to pickup. Then I will manually select the image area, and adjust the color until I can at least get a usable image.
