what to buy first?

Hello everybody.

I am the poud owner of a Nikon D7000 with a kit lens 18-105,

I have my first gig, a christining of a friends grand daughter, and i need your help.

I am doing this for free just for the experience but also cause I like it.

I have been looking for a while for a flashgun and or a prime lens but I can't make my mind up.

What would I benefit more? and what to get of either?

Budget is up to £400.

Any help well apreciated.

Or, you can get:

and the 50mm f/1.8G lens mentioned above, and still have about $100 to work with. You'll eat a lot of that up in stuff like good rechargeable batteries for the flash, maybe some wireless triggers.

I've had my Yongnuo on a D5100 for a few months now and love it; bought a couple of cheap wireless triggers, and have had no problems with it. It's a really nice solution for cash-strapped beginners, imo.

I agree with the SB700 speedlight... But you can also consider the 35mm f/1.8G if you will be in an indoor area with less space to move around.

I have some Yongnuo's and I love them, but for your primary flash I really would lean toward having at least one good nikon flash gun.

With a D7000 you can get the AF 50mm f/1.8D lens and its only about 100$.

(And hardly worse than the AF-S version. Just much louder because you use the screwdrive of your camera instead of a nice silent ultrasonic motor in your lens)

You have not said what prime lens you are considering. Some primes are going to be out of your price range, I'm afraid, depending upon which one you have in mind.

Not knowing the prices where you live, I can't be of much help in specific lens choices, but when you see what the SB-910 speedlight can do, I think you will agree that the flash can help you in many situations.
