What was the cause for the price hike here?

Okay, so I was looking at the Nikkor 180/2.8 about a year ago, and the used price was about $450. Now, the used price is about $750. I can see a little increase, but $300 in one year?! What caused that??

^^ What those guys said plus add in the fact that since last year the $ has continued to weaken against the Yen so you've also got a base price increase in the new products even before the disaster removed the supply of fresh units into the market. Add the two together and you've got a serious increase in the base cost of the unit - and when the base price goes up so too does the second hand price.
