what works well as a wide angle for the d500 since crop factor?

hi have a d500 looking for a good wide angle i have the AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED great lens but not a wide angle what will work as a good wide angle with the1.5 crop factor? thanks Tom

You are mistaken - the focal lengths 17mm to 24mm are indeed considered wide angle on your DX (crop) Nikon.

Anything less than 50 is considered "wide angle". And stop worrying so much about the crop factor. Get a lens made for your camera. Put it on and look through the viewfinder and decide if it's wide enough.

Full frame lenses generally won't be much good for giving you wider views.
17mm on DX is similar to 26mm on FX, which is reasonably wide (in film days my 28mm was considered to be at the wider side of everyday glass). What your after is really something classes as ultra wide.
If you want wider than 17mm there are third party 10-24 (& similar) rectilinear lenses for DX bodies.
I tend to find mine awkward to use. - Strangely I find the extreme wide of fish-eye lenses much easier & the distortion they introduce is rarely a problem, but I guess they are expected to distort.

Agreed with this! Forget about the crop factor.

Your zoom should work great for wide angle shots. 17mm is pretty wide. If you want still wider, then get a lens that is shorter than 17mm.

When I was still shooting cropped I really loved the Tokina 11-16 2.8. It had virtually no distortion, no chromatic aberration, and was honestly my favorite lens. I wish I could find a similar lens in full frame. Plus, I just checked and you can get one for less than $150
