Nikon d90 body and a nice lens (arround 600 to spend on lens ) or a even nicer camera body with kit lens ( wont be able to upgrade lens for a while if use this option )

This will be my first dslr

thanks in advance

Depends on the "nicer" body. Fx?

D7000 is obviously a nicer body...the D90 is almost on its final legs...it'll probably be EOL (end of life) before the end of the first quarter of 2011 expires. The D7000 is slotted into a new niche in the lineup, above the D90, but below the D300s. Perhaps the D90's direct replacement will be the next announced Nikon DX body...

Go with d90 and a better lens. Cameras will come and go but a great lens will last you a while.

First DSLR? Does an Amature need any more that a D90? Does an amature need a D90? My advice would be to get yourself a D3100 or D5000 and 3 good lenses. A wide 18-55mm, a zoom 70-200mm and a Prime 1.4/50mm. Then once you're a pro and making a fortune from photography upgrade to a full-frame model. ;)

+1

Although the D90 is oldish and will be replaced - do you really need something with all its capability? My suggestion is to get a lower end camera with a couple of kit lenses (I disagree about the 50mm 1.4 at this time) and learn photography on it. Once you learn photography and figure out what you like in terms of photography - buy good or great lenses that are geared to that. If you like to do portraits, buy a prime lens specifically for that; if landscapes your thing you would buy something different and if photography isn't your thing - you have a better point and shoot camera.

If you decide you really love photography and start collecting great lenses then eventually go for the best body you can afford. My suggestion is to not purchase lenses that are for DX (crop sensor) only but for FX (full frame sensors) when the time comes.

Does an amateur need a D90, why not get a D3100?

Guys, why do you do this every time!? I think if it's within someone's budget to skip the mini lineup then by all means, go for it.

I say if you are starting out get the best you can afford - it will save you that step of selling the baby Nikon in 6 months to upgrade the body instead of getting better glass. Starting out, I'd rather spend extra money on a nicer body than glass because you most likely don't yet know where your interests are and what range of glass you'll need the most.

Exactly. I went through 2 lower end cameras before I landed on my D90.

The 7000 will be the nicer body or something in that price range.
And i know getting a lower end camera and using it for a while is a good idea, and getting nice lens to go with, i dont wana have to upgrade bodies ANY time soon..As i learn photography more and more i dont want the body to limit me any time soon...and have to get a new one. If i get a nice body that will expand the things i need to learn making that upgrade take longer...

Correct me if im wrong on this too, im just merley giving my opinion

thanks

my budget will be no more then 1500

People will get sick of me saying this but have a look at the Sony A55. You won't beat it for the price.

Everything that is said here are opinions, none of us can force you what to get. Getting a higher end body will give you more options and if you have a budget for good glass then definately get it. Just be aware that great equipment does not equal great photos just as lesser equipment doesn't equal lesser photos. The price difference between a D90 and D7000 with the same lens is about $400 ... The D7000 wasn't out then but I was able to get the D90 and 2 lenses for the price difference - getting the 2 lenses was important for me vs getting a better body, whatever that was at the time.
