What's a good Canon lens to use for a typical ad campaign photo shoot?

Depends on how much space you have. I do a lot of portraits with my 24-105 4L indoor with backdrops and outdoor I use the 70-200 2.8 L mk2
Also are you doing outdoor or indoor shoot?

i worked with a high fashion and catalog photographer for many years as his digital tech.. and 95% of the time he shot with his canon 24-70 L lens ... EVERY NOW AND THEN.. we'd swap out for his gorgeous 85mm L lens .. but the 24-70 just gives you a really large variety of shots you can accomplish with its entire range being basically a sweet spot!

he was shooting with a 1d mark3 of course.. so since u have a 7d you're not going to get AS MUCH out of the wide portion of the lens since you have a slightly cropped sensor.. but still you'll be just fine =)

I use a 50F1.4, 70-200F4L, 24-70F2.8L, 200F2.8, 300F2.8L they all work depends what distance you are shooting from

I'm pretty sure fashion is usually shot with 50mm f1.4, 24-70mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8, and 85mm f? lenses. Any of those would do fine I thin, but just for versatility if you're only getting one I'd go with the 24-70.

I use anything from a 15mm Fish to a 70-200.

just use a 24-70 or 70-200 depending on the compositions you want...
