I am loking for a phot program. I just bought a camera and I am leaning towards lightroom 4 or 5, 4 if I can find it. Should it go on sale for black friday or cyber monday?

Lightroom is actually good for beginners because it gives you a lot of tools for quickly editing images, even though it lacks the pixel manipulation and layers power of Photoshop. Either version is good right now; 5 has some nice enhancements. If you can afford the upgrade, go for it. There's a bit of a learning curve with LR. It's nothing like consumer software that comes with cameras. Spend some time playing and watching videos and searching the help. However, that doesn't mean Photoshop is easier. To make Photoshop worth owning at $600, you really need to understand how to use it and what its advantages are. This is why I think LR is a good option for beginners. It enables you to get a workflow without a huge investment. There are sales on this software throughout the year. Just keep an eye out. Buy from legitimate sources, however, like Adorama. Prices that are too good to be true never are.
