What's new

Whats in your bag?

Went on a brief shoot at an abandoned house today and I took two systems - I wanted to shoot some slide film and also B&W. So I had:

In my camera backpack:
Pentax MZ-S body (shot some Provia 100 that needed to be used)
assorted Pentax lenses:
85mm 1.4
20mm 2.8
135mm 2.8
50mm 2.8
and the Luna Pro light meter

In my hardcase:
Mamiya 645 1000S body
assorted Mamiya lenses:
80mm 1.9
35mm 3.5
55mm 2.8
150mm 3.5

A whole mess of filters tucked into the pockets, and a tripod. I had fun. :D

But I want another (larger) backpack for the Mamiya! The hardcase isn't meant for the field. ;)

At the moment, my Nikon D2H, an AF-D 50mm f/1.8, and an AF-S 18-70mm.

My bag (Lowepro CompuDayPak) contains at all times:

Nikon D80
Nikon F80
Nikkor 50mm 1.8D
Nikkor 35-70mm 4-5.6D
Sigma 100-300mm 4.5-6.7
Hoya circular polarizer
Tiffen red filter
Memory cards
Batteries
Cleaning supplies
I also carry around a tripod, but that doesn't fit in my bag.

My husband informed me this morning that my bag will soon also contain a Nikkor 18mm 2.8D and an SB-800, woohoo! (He's buying them for me)

50mm seems popular what do you use it for
50 mm is popular because of several reasons:

  1. It simulates the normal field of view of human eyes
  2. It's fast. (has a large maximu aperture, for high shutter speeds or low light, or shallow depth of field)
  3. They're usually inexpensive for how well they perform. Often, you can pick up a 50 mm f/1.8 to f/2 for under a hundred bucks new, $30 used.
  4. With digital cameras, a 50 mm lens usually comes out to be a short telephoto, which is ideal for portraiture. (esp. with the wide aperture)
I'll probably get one for my next lens.
