Well hello I have been interested in photography for 1-2 years now and haven't upgraded a thing. I wanted to buy a new lens for my Nikon D50, but I have been thinking about the future. I would like to be a photojournalist some day (I'm 14 now) and I was wondering if I should change my camera brand before buying some lenses. I was thinking this because I have seen many professionals latley using Cannon's. So just wondering if you guys think it would matter what brand of camera I have when trying to get a job, or if it wouldn't matter at this time. Thanks allot for the help!

Both Nikon and Canon make suitable bodies and lenses to match anything you could possibly want to do professionally. It really all depends on what tickles your fancy the most. I will say, Canon has a MUCH better used camera/lens selection than Nikon.
