Whats the difference

Im wanting a macro lenses and Im seeing telephoto macros. I would like a 1:1 mag but some are like 1:2. My question is what does the telephoto macro do and which is the most versatile lens to use for other shots.

I think the true macro lens should have magnification ratio at least 1:1. A 1:2 lens is not a true macro, although some lenses claim so

Your best bet will be 100mm f/2.8 (Canon) or 105mm f/2.8 (Nikon). Both are 1:1 and dont have a huge price tag on them.
Macro means life size magnification, which is 1:1. 1:2 is half life size.
