Panasonic Lumix LX-5 Point and shoot shot at 5mm, with a Metz AF-50 flash attached (and yes, the flash is a little over 4 times the size of the camera, lol). Flash was at 1/4 power I think and bounced off the corner to the viewer's upper left.

ISO80 f/3.2 1/60 sec

Just a candid, but any C+C is always appreciated.
 
My immediate impression: her feet are missing.
Second impression: the light doesn't fall nicely onto your second subject ("mom") - she's too dark.
Third impression: to much going on in the background and above her head.

Her facial expression shows quite some distress, so no wonder pug is wondering what might be wrong! You thus nailed that.
But we see very little of pug's expression, which I miss.
