Hey guys/girls.

Plagued with boredom, I sat around today staring at my camera. Where I live the temperature is hovering around 20 degrees Fahrenheit. Layering up and going outside to take pictures just isn't enjoyable to me, so instead I wasted my day away indoors. But as I continued to look at my camera, I thought about my photography in general, and how I can improve it. I thought about some of the aspects of photography that I am a little more comfortable with, and those that I struggle with.

So what's your photography weakness? Is there something that you have a hard time with, or can't get to work for you?

I ask this because I'm interested in seeing what other think they can improve on, and what they find to be frustrating when taking shots.

For me, it's lighting. I don't normally pose subjects for photos, but when I do, lighting is a big issue for me. I don't have the right equipment, and even if I did, lighting is still one aspect of photography that I can never work in my favor.

Thanks for any replies,

Quite honestly, my biggest weakness is my attitude. Sometimes my pictures just aren't working for me and I hate everything I shoot, no matter how much thought I put into it. There are days where I take one look through my pictures and end up deleting them all, because I'm just not happy with them. It happens. I know there's other things that I can improve upon, but I feel like attitude can definitely be the biggest obstacle.

Posing people is my biggest challenge.... I also struggle with lighting a bit, but that's starting to get better...

I can and will improve on everything. Every time I take a photo I learn something.

For me, my biggest "thing" is motivation. But that is a personal issue.

I'm right there with you. If i'm put in a place where I know there is good subject matter, I'll whip out my camera. But I really have to push myself to take pictures otherwise.

My biggest weakness is finding a way to restrain all this awesomeness...

Really, though - I think it would have to be motivation for me too. Sometimes I just don't feel like picking a camera up. I'm glad I don't do this for money, because I'd probably be pretty broke.

Maybe it's just because of the winter. If nothing changes when it warms up, then I guess I'm just lazy. :lmao:

My biggest weakness in my photography isn't my photographic skills (that is not the same as saying I'm a photographic expert just that its not the biggest weakness I have ;)) its my fieldcraft (or lack thereof if fieldcraft skills) combined with motivation (its winter everything is cold and wet and muddy and did I mention cold!)

Outside of that area I'd say my weakest area with photography is general people shots; it doesn't help that they are often indoors (where I am not the best with lighting, but I can normally get things sorted after I've blinded them a few times with the flash) but I generally just never know how to take nor what to do (editing) with people shots.

I mean for a start people want to be far more blurry and watery on the skin in photos whilst having razor sharp eyes and silky flowing hair; oh and they want nips and tucks everywhere too... animals are far less picky about their editing.

Lighting was my first thought but I have much to learn in all regards. :)

Definitely lighting and exposure. Getting a lot better though..Understanding Exposure is a great resource.

Mine is deffinetly keeping myself from buying all that expensive gear i would like to have.

Composition for me, specifically "subject blindness", where I tend to see something I want to shoot and I forget to take the time to see what else is in the frame before I click the shutter.

Something I'm trying to work on in that regard is just being more deliberate with my photos rather than just shooting whatever looks interesting whenever it looks interesting. Taking the time to decide what angle would be interesting, what kind of lighting I want to use, what aperture and shutter speed, etc., so I can tell the story I want to tell... I still feel very much on the steep end of the learning curve, and the more I learn, the more I tend to see inadequacies in my own photos.

I'd say my biggest weakness at the moment is not having a camera, lol. But only one more week till my paycheck rolls in and I can purchase the d90 I have my eyes on!

Other than that I know my biggest challenge is going to be lighting. When I shot film, I never used a flash and stuck to outdoor/natural light, so I think it's going to be quite a learning curve for me, but one I'm glad to meet head on.
