I really like these images -- the overall composition and mood. You captured the bird pretty well. I especially like the 2nd photo. Looks like he's thinking where he's going to search for his next meal. Keep up the good work!

Many Thanks. He was very attentive to what was going on...there is a blackbird nest in the bush to his left, perhaps he was listening for the young in there? He was searching for something, alright. :)

Great catch! Lucky to get him in your garden! Sadly the House Sparrow is now on the endangered species list :(

Wow, really? That's a shame, they are cute little guys. Ironically, as far as I know they are considered an invasive species here in Canada, we have too many!

Bend the Light - those are great pictures!

Yes, they were endangered, probably thought of as pests. I don't mind sparrows, or any other bird that visits my garden.

Thanks for the "like". :)

That hawk is a possible answer! If I was a sparrow and see that guy (Hopefully before he sees me!!), I would book it in a deep narrow hole and pray!

Very nice! I really like how you left him in context instead of trying to get an highly detailed tight crop, nice work!

Thanks. Well, he needs to be in context, doesn't he. I think he was looking and listening to the happenings in that shrub to his left...it is usually full of sparrows, and may have a blackbird nest in it.

Cheers

Nice shots BTL. Do you usually get birds like this visiting your garden? Incidentally, i haven't seen a thrush in ...years. They seemed to have died right out, around here.

Our usual garden birds are
Sparrows
Starlings
Blackbirds
a pair of collared doves (occasionally)
The odd blue tit (for a fleeting visit)
The odd goldfinch (very very fleeting visits)
The Robin
A wren...very occasionally.

The sparrowhawk we have seen about 4 times in total, out of nearly 10 years here. Rare occurance.
Our house and garden looks straight onto another housing block, so no trees to speak of. We try to help birds (mainly by not looking after our garden ;) ).

I saw a thrush yesterday, I think. Not in our garden, though. We were in the gardens of a stately home/castle...
