where to focus when taking a picture of two people?

I'm new to photography and my question is when taking a picture of two people side by side, where do I focus ? My camera has the option for single point focus, but also has the option of multiple focus points? Thank you

If they're side by side, than it doesn't matter who you focus on, they'd be on the same plane.

I normally pick one person and focus on the eyes, The only real issues I've had is having a really short depth of field, so use one that's suitable for your shot, and the effect you want to produce!
